Evidence-Based Chatbots: Educator burnout is a hot topic these days and it’s not hard to see why. With increasing workloads and pandemic-related stress, educators are feeling the pressure more than ever before.
That’s why we were excited to find out about new research that has been done on chatbots as a way of combating this problem. In this article, we will discuss how evidence-based chatbots can help teachers avoid educator burnout by providing them with personalized support throughout the day.
A survey by the Rand Corporation confirms this trend. In 2021, one in four teachers said that they were likely to leave their jobs within a year, up from one in six prior to the pandemic. But teachers aren’t the only ones feeling stressed.
Another survey found that three-quarters of superintendents considered quitting in the 2020/2021 school year.
In a recent study, researchers from Stanford University and the University of Chicago found that educators who used evidence-based chatbots experienced reduced stress levels as well as better mental health over time.
The results were promising enough for other universities to conduct their own research on this topic, but what exactly is an “evidence-based” chatbot and how does it work?
There are a lot of chatbots available on the market today and many of them promise to reduce stress levels by helping educators stay organized or share information. However, these bots don’t always provide useful insights because they aren’t based on research.
The Stanford/Chicago study found that only those tools with evidence-based chatbots were effective in helping teachers.
A chatbot can, for example, help you by automatically sending messages to parents when their child misses school.
It can also nudge them with timely reminders about completing important paperwork and provide support for families that speak English as a second language.
Evidence-Based Chatbots, What exactly qualifies as an evidence-based chatbot? At the most basic level, it means that the tool is backed by research and has been tested to ensure its effectiveness.
You can check whether a chatbot is evidence-based by looking at its marketing material and website for statements like “research shows” or “studies have shown.”
